Kanlow was developed and released
by the Kansas Agricultural Experiment Station and the
Crops Research Division, ARS/USDA. Seeds
that led to the development of Kanlow were
collected from a low land site near Wetunka,
OK in 1957. The resulting population was
isolated and increased on the Agronomy Farm at
Kansas State University. It was
identified as Kansas Strain 2218. Kanlow
is intended to supplement upland switchgrass
varieties by its special adaptation to wet situations.
It is primarily a soil conservation
grass but also makes excellent pasture and hay.
Pedigreed seed classes include Foundation
and Certified.
