JUPITER PEANUTS

Jupiter is a large-seeded Virginia-type peanut with a bunch growth habit and plant size similar to NC7.  It was released by the Oklahoma Agricultural Experiment Station in 2000.  The main stem of Jupiter is slightly more apparent and foliage is lighter green compared to NC7.

Jupiter has higher pod yields, higher percentages of Virginia pods, higher percentages of extra large kernels, and higher percentages of sound mature kernels compared to NC7.  Pods of Jupiter mature earlier and are brighter than those of NC7.  Seeds of Jupiter are pink in color.  Jupiter appears to have more tolerance to sclerotinia blight and pod rot compared to NC7.  Four classes of Pedigreed Seed (Breeder, Foundation, Registered, and Certified) will be recognized.
