HARDIE BERMUDAGRASS

Hardie is a 1974 release of the Oklahoma Agricultural Experiment Station.  It is an infertile, vegetatively propagated hybrid that has demonstrated excellent winterhardiness.  It has demonstrated much better forage quality than Midland, which should result in significantly increased daily animal gains.  Hardie grows taller than Midland and has somewhat larger stems and broader and longer leaves.   It develops many large rhizomes which should make it easy to establish with mechanical spriggers.  Hardie is adapted throughout Oklahoma but it suggested for use in the northern half of the state.  It is expected to do better in areas of high rainfall or those under irrigation.
