DELIVER
Deliver is a hard red winter wheat variety released in 2004 by the Oklahoma Agricultural Experiment Station and the USDA-ARS. A widely adapted variety in Oklahoma, Deliver has performed well throughout the state.
Deliver has: i) moderate to substantial improvement in grain yield potential over currently grown varieties, ii) outstanding test weight patterns combined with unusually large kernel size, iii) consistently high forage availability throughout the winter grazing season combined with relatively late first hollow stem date, iv) broad-spectrum adult plant resistance to the major foliar diseases, and v) desirable milling and baking quality.
Because Deliver, a beardless variety, may be equally recommended for a dual-purpose system, a grain-only system, or a hay-production/graze-out system, it represents a bona fide tri-purpose wheat. This unique range of adaptation gives producers flex-management options from the ability to make in-season decisions on using a standing crop for grain production or for hay or late-season grazing.
Deliver is expected to excel in the mill and the bakery. Reasons for this expectation include large and consistent kernel size, high flour yield with moderately low flour ash, and desirable bake absorption and loft volume.
Disease reactions of Deliver are: resistant to leaf rust (adult plant), stripe rust, wheat soilborne mosaic virus, and powdery mildew (adult plant); moderately resistant to spetoria glume blotch; moderately susceptible to tan spot and stem rust; and susceptible to wheat streak mosaic virus.
Deliver is similar to 2174 in high and heading date, late in reaching FHS, moderately susceptible to low pH and lodging, and is relatively insensitive to high temperature during germination.
U.S. Protected Variety (PVPA 1994 and Title V) - to be sold by variety name only as a class of certified seed.
