2174 is an awned, white chaffed, tall semidwarf hard red winter wheat. 2174 results from an increase of the selection HBZ374C developed by Pioneer Hi-Bred International, Inc. and released to the Oklahoma wheat breeding program in 1990. It was released as a variety by the Oklahoma Agricultural Experiment Station in 1997. 2174 appears to be best adapted to the central and north central areas of Oklahoma. In these areas, 2174 is equal to or better than most other varieties in yield potential and test weight. It has excellent adult-plant resistance to leaf rust. It is also resistant to tan spot, powdery mildew, and soil-borne mosaic virus. It exceeds most semidwarf varieties in coleoptile length and appears to produce better than average fall forage. It has satisfactory end-use quality. 2174 contains several height variants which are more evident in some environments. These variants are considered to be trivial and of no harm to the agronomic performance or to the end-use quality of the variety. 2174 is a protected variety under Title V of the Plant Variety Protection
Act to be sold by variety name only as a class of certified seed - PVPA
1994.
