2137

2137 (hard red winter wheat) was derived from a germplasm gift from Pioneer Hi-Bred International, Inc. and released by the Kansas Agricultural Experiment Station.

For Kansas, 2137 was released to replace 2163.  In Kansas tests, 2137 has a 5 bu/A yield advantage, a 2 1/2 lb/bu test weight advantage, and a 1% increase in flour yield.

The two varieties are similar in disease and insect reactions except 2137 has improved leaf rust resistance.  2137 is slightly taller and later than 2163.   It also does not perform as well on low pH soils as 2163.  2137 appears to be best adapted to Central, North Central, and Eastern Kansas.

2137 is a protected variety under Title V of the Plant Variety Protection Act
to be sold by variety name only as a class of certified seed - PVPA 1994.
